Meet the Tutor:

Kathy Mendoza is a Barton Reading and Spelling Tutor with our office. Kathy has always had a love of reading and wanted to share that with her son. He loved listening to books being read to him, although he never showed an interest in reading or writing. When her son started kindergarten she realized that he seemed behind in reading and writing. He seemed to have “difficulties” doing things the other children did. It seemed like he struggled with “school” in general. She was always asking his teachers about his “difficulties” and was told “it was normal” and that “he would outgrow it”, and “don’t worry, he’s doing fine”. She continued to work with him at home, and found tutors for him in the summers. Nothing seemed to really help. He continued to struggle and continued to fall behind. She started to think that maybe he was dyslexic. Finally in March, 2010 when her son was in the 4th grade she brought him to see Dr Jordon. He confirmed her belief that her son was in fact dyslexic. Dr Jordon told her about the “Barton” system. She ordered the first level, started training on the system and working with her son. She was very excited about finally doing something proven and positive for her son. She could see her son starting to make progress! She then ordered and trained on the next level, and then the next level. She continued to tutor him. She was very excited about the growth her son was making. She started to notice just how many children struggle with reading. She decided she wanted to help other children with dyslexia learn to read also. She started to tutor some of her friend’s children that were also diagnosed with dyslexia. She fell in love with working with children, one on one, learn to read. Her passion is to help dyslexic children learn to read.

Kathy also enjoys scrapbooking, camping, boating, scouting, traveling, and enjoying life with her husband and son.

Tutoring Sessions:

An appointment with Dr Jordon to evaluate your child’s needs is required. If your child is dyslexic and the Doctor determines that tutoring in the “Barton System” would benefit your child he would then recommend you to schedule your first tutoring appointment.

The first tutoring session starts with getting to know your child and testing to evaluate where to start in the “Barton Reading and Spelling System”. Each tutoring session is one hour long, and we recommend that your child attends two, one hour sessions a week for optimal benefit. Your child will work at his or her own pace to master the skills necessary to move through the program.

Take a pledge to read to your child everyday for enjoyment.
